A double murphy bed hits the sweet spot for most guest rooms: comfortable enough for two adults, compact enough to disappear into the wall when nobody is staying over. It is the size we recommend most often for home offices that double as guest rooms, basement suites and condos where one room has to earn its keep twice.

Choose between two styles. The Wallie vertical wall bed folds up lengthwise in the traditional way, while the Heidi horizontal murphy bed folds sideways against the wall, which keeps it well under standard ceiling height and leaves the wall above free for shelves or art. Both are available in multiple finishes and offer Easy Setup.

Mattress and Installation for a Double Murphy Bed

The maximum mattress thickness on a double is 8 inches, the same as the twin, and we recommend the 8 inch Serenity memory foam mattress. The Heidi and the Wallie both take a standard mattress instead of a tri fold, and ship without a mattress.

Unlike the twin, a double should be anchored to the wall on both the Heidi and the Wallie. If you would rather not mount anything, the Olivia cabinet bed in double at $1,999.99 is free standing, includes its mattress and needs no wall fixing.
