What age is safe for the top bunk?

Health Canada advises that children under 6 should not sleep on the top bunk. Use the guard rails on both sides of the top bunk and keep the ladder or stairs clear.

What size mattress does a bunk bed need?

A single bunk takes a standard single (twin) mattress, about 39 by 75 inches, and a double bunk takes a 54 by 75 inch double. Keep the top mattress thin enough that the guard rail still rises at least 5 inches above it. Our Canadian bed and mattress size chart has every size.

How much ceiling height do you need for a bunk bed?
